Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry
Vice President for Technology and X-ray Lab Director at CCERCI
Faculty member of Inorganic Chemistry Department

PhD; Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany.
Postdoc: Marburg, Germany
Postdoc: Minneapolis, USA

Mohammad Reza Halvagar obtained an MS in chemistry from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran (2001, research with D. Boghaie). Between 2004 and 2005 he was trained under the supervision of Professor Sven Hovmöller (Stockholm University, Sweden) on high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). He obtained his PhD in chemistry from the University of Münster, Germany (2009, with W. Uhl), where he worked on the synthesis and purification of group 13 organometallic peroxides. After a postdoctoral period with S. Dehnen at the University of Marburg, Germany, he joined the laboratory of Prof. William B. Tolman at the University of Minnesota. His research encompassed synthetic bioinorganic chemistry focused on modeling multicopper active sites. Currently he is the director of X-ray lab at Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Research Center of Iran (CCERCI).

Research Interests:

Surface functionalization of crystalline materials and exploring their application in nano motors, is among our new research projects.

In bio-inorganic chemistry, our focus is on structural and spectroscopic understanding of multi-copper active sites through biomimetic synthesis. The goal is to isolate multicopper peroxides and superoxides which known as good candidates for catalytic oxidation of simple hydrocarbons.
